Each
night, Baltazar listens to his grandpa’s tales of
pirates and buried treasure. He never seems to get
enough. One night, at the stroke of midnight, his
wish for his own pirate adventure comes true when
a swashbuckling corsair named Mr. Flynn wakens
Baltazar from his dreams. Captain Redlocks wants
him to help them find Greybeard’s treasure. They
have the map, but one corner is missing. Baltazar,
Greybeard’s great-great-grandson, knows just where
to look, so the corsairs set sail aboard Cutlass
for Treasure Isle.
Of course, the island
doesn’t resemble the place Greybeard visited. Now,
it’s an amusement park and the corsairs must pan
for gold, brave the rapids, soar aboard The
Flying Dutchman, and survive ambushes at the
Inn by the Spanish Main before they venture into
Gamblers’ Cove. While they win treasure there,
they still haven’t found Greybeard’s chest. Will
they survive the daring, and sometimes fearsome,
adventures still in store for them at Treasure
Isle? Do they find the buried treasure in time?
Can they escape the park’s guards?
An amusement park beset
by pirates is a winning combination. Young pirate
apprentices will enjoy this wild ride as Baltazar
and his new friends search for treasure. At
thirty-nine pages, it is longer than the usual
picture book, but it’s geared toward children who
can read. Even so, younger pirates will also enjoy
having the story read to them as they explore the
intricate and wonderful artwork that fills each
page.
