Captain Rex, Bronto Beard, Triceracook, and
Velocimate tower over the little pirasaur, but
that doesn’t dissuade the youngster from wanting
to earn their respect and join their ranks. His
does his best, even though his efforts sometimes
have disastrous results. They sail to an island in
search of treasure, and the little pirasaur’s job
is to find the X that marks the spot – a simple
task unless you’re small and new. Not far away a
rival dino crew lurks, and before long the
pirasaurs are fighting for their lives. Who comes
to their rescue? The little pirasaur with a
suggestion to make all the pirasaurs happy.
Why no one ever thought to combine pirates and
dinosaurs – two favorites of all children – is a
mystery, but Funk and Slack weave their magic to
create pirasaurs who rule the seas. This scurvy
crew is a mix of male and female pirates, and both
author and illustrator have infused these
characters with great piratitude! The rhyming
story captivates young pirates and begs them to
participate in the telling. The illustrations are
vibrant and wonderful. The little pirate is
adorable and young pirates will readily identify
with him (or her). While I’m not certain how their
ship stays afloat, Pirasaurs! is a delight
to read and sure to be a piratical favorite.
