Few things capture the imagination as much as a ship at sea, yet unless you live near a seaport, you don’t have the opportunity to do more than read about them. The Pop-up Book of Ships changes that. From the instant you open the cover of this book, ships from the past and today unfold right before your eyes. Some pop-ups are large, while others are small, and one is so big it takes four pages to emerge.

First up is Sir Francis Drake’s Golden Hind as you examine the vessels used in exploration starting with the Vikings. Next, the bow of HMS Victory emerges to introduce readers to warships with sails. Cutty Sark seems to float right off the page as the world of maritime trade is discussed. The battleships of steam, iron, and the 20th century come next, followed by cruise ships. The final double-page spread covers yachts and sports.

The intricacy of each model astounds the reader each time the book is opened. The colorful artwork and short narratives about the vessels are a fabulous introduction to the history of ships. The price of this book is high, but well worth the treasures that unfold before your very eyes!
